Project: Core Valley Lines

Client: Amey Infrastructure Wales

Software: P6 | Primavera Risk Analysis | Acumen Fuse

Contract: NEC Option C (Target Contract with activity schedule)

4Berri Consulting were engaged to provide interim Planning Management support on the development of the Core Valley Lines programme. The programme involves design, procurement, construction and commissioning works, covering the following scope:

  • The electrification of 170km of track.

  • Carrying out upgrades and improvements to stations and signalling.

  • The construction of at least two new stations.

The train lines up to Aberdare, Coryton, Merthyr Tydfil, Rhymney and Treherbert are known as the Core Valleys Lines, with the management of the CVL programme being planned, scheduled and progressed within a single P6 Database, covering multiple users across several contract partners.

4Berri Consulting carried out programme assurance on an Integrated Master Schedule (IMS), providing confidence that the programme of works could be delivered on time. The IMS ran to 80,000 activities, covering Concept and Detailed Design, all Give/Get milestones, and a fully logically-linked procurement and construction programme across Overhead Lines, Track, Civils and Signalling works.

Programme quality checks were carried out using Acumen Fuse and P6, and issues were highlighted and managed through regular discussions with each of the contract partners. In addtion, through use of the NEC Option C contract (Target Contract with activity schedule), risks were managed between client and contractor, including the use of Monte Carlo Risk Analysis software, PRA.
